Teeth Whitening

ZOOM!™ is a gentle, gel-activated hydrogen peroxide solution that effectively eliminates general discoloration and buildup from coffee, tea, soda, and tobacco. One of the most common procedures performed at our office.

Veneers

Thin porcelain coverings correct problems like chipped teeth and gaps. Veneers provide a complete makeover to give you a desirable smile!

Crowns, Bridges & Implants

Reestablish the form and function of your teeth. Crowns are the best option for patients who have a damaged tooth with the root intact.

Composite Bonding

Quick and affordable, composite bonding repairs a chip or crack, fills gaps between teeth, and hides discolorations — a natural-looking alternative to traditional filling materials.

Invisalign™

Invisalign™ fits straightening your teeth into your lifestyle.

Invisalign™ is the clear alternative to traditional braces. Patients at Foreside Dental Healthcare in Falmouth, ME, can receive the benefits of braces without having to feel and see metal wires or brackets. These removable clear braces are custom made for total comfort.

Wearing & cleaning your trays

Wear: each set for a full two weeks before switching. Moving to a new set too early can compromise the remodeling bone, resulting in bone loss and tissue recession. Switch at bedtime for easier first-time removal.

Clean: use a toothbrush and antibacterial soap. Denture cleaners or toothpaste will dull and scratch the surface.

Appointments: typically every 6 weeks, 20–30 minutes long.

How Invisalign™ works

  1. Wear each set of customized aligners for two weeks.
  2. Remove only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
  3. Your teeth will move gradually each week.
  4. Visit us every 6–8 weeks.
  5. Total treatment time averages 6–15 months.
  6. Average number of aligners is between 18 and 30.

Frequently asked questions about Invisalign™

Invisalign™ trays are shipped to us from the Invisalign™ Company. Due to occasional, unforeseen shipping issues, if your trays do not arrive prior to your scheduled appointment we will contact you right away to find an alternate appointment time.

As with any type of orthodontics there are times when adjustments in treatment need to be made. That is no big deal and it even happens with Invisalign™. Sometimes additional impressions are taken and different trays are made to address a particular issue. There are no increases in cost to you when this happens — it is just part of the process.

Lost trays can be replaced. Additional fees may apply. Using your tray case every time you take out your trays will help — putting your trays in a napkin inevitably ends up in a lost tray. To maintain optimal results and protect your investment, wear trays as directed.
Sleep Apnea

Do you snore? We can help.

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)? Sleep apnea is essentially your body choking on itself and causing repeated episodes of partial or complete suffocation, sometimes lasting a minute or more. These episodes repeat constantly throughout the night, causing a myriad of health complications including increased risk of stroke, heart attack and even death. The cause is usually the soft tissues in the mouth, tongue or throat closing down and blocking airflow during sleep. The first sign is usually snoring.

Oral appliance therapy. Our practice specializes in fitting patients with a custom fabricated oral appliance to manage sleep apnea. It holds your lower jaw in a precise open and forward position so the soft tissues in your throat and neck no longer collapse. Custom made for your teeth, it fits much like a sports mouth guard — a comfortable, easy solution for snoring and sleep apnea.

Are you at risk?

  • Do you snore loudly, loud enough to be heard through closed doors?
  • Do you often feel tired, fatigued or sleepy during the day?
  • Has your bed partner ever seen you stop or pause breathing in your sleep?
  • Do you have, or are you being treated for, high blood pressure?
  • Are you overweight or obese, or over 50 years old?
  • Is your neck circumference greater than 16 inches?
  • Are you male?

If you answered yes to two or more, you should have your sleep health evaluated. Call (207) 781-2054.

A good option for

  • Primary snoring
  • Mild to moderate apnea, or severe apnea if you can’t tolerate or refuse CPAP
  • Those who can’t tolerate CPAP pressure
  • Healthy, disease-free teeth
  • Travelers who don’t want a CPAP machine

Advantages

  • Easy to wear and comfortable
  • Small, noiseless, barely noticeable
  • Convenient to travel with
  • Doesn’t bother bed partners
  • Not permanent — stop anytime
  • Typically covered by medical insurance and Medicare

“The best of traditional values of caring for patients personally and modern methods of dentistry. I am not an easy patient to impress—anxious and with a history of bad experiences—and my years with Foreside Dental have changed my feelings entirely. Highly recommend.”

Michele F

“Everything has been great from front desk, dental hygienist and doctors. I couldn’t have asked for better service, and appreciate the thorough explanations while going over my procedures. I would highly recommend Foreside Dental Health Care to any of my friends and family.”

FAQs

We answer your frequently asked questions.

The American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines recommend visiting a dentist at least twice a year for a checkup and professional cleaning. Our dental office in Falmouth also recommends a minimum of two visits per year.

One of our Foreside Dental staff members will compile your medical and dental history during your first visit. We will then examine your teeth and gums, screen you for oral cancer, take X-rays of your teeth as needed and complete a TMJ (temporomandibular or jaw joint) exam. After we review your dental profile, Dr. Lea Beaulieu or Dr. Manijeh Best will discuss a diagnosis with you. If treatment such as a root canal (endodontics), braces (orthodontics) or oral surgery is needed, we will plan to treat you in our office or refer you to a specialist.

Please call our office as soon as you determine that you have a dental emergency. We will be glad to work you in to our schedule if you have a dental emergency during regular business hours. After hours, over the weekend and during holidays, please call our office for the dentist’s emergency contact number.

We accept many types of dental insurance and will process your claim for you upon receipt of your co-payment. We offer a low interest rate payment plan and also accept most major credit cards, including MasterCard and Visa.

Yes. Zoom bleaching is done in our office; one session generally lasts one and a half to two hours, and you can read or relax during the treatment. For overnight bleaching, we make an impression of your teeth and create a mouthguard that fits your bite. Each day you fill it with a small amount of bleaching gel and wear it overnight or for a few hours during the day; the process takes approximately two weeks.

Porcelain veneers are designed to look like your natural teeth and are individually and permanently attached to the fronts of your existing teeth. Bonding uses a composite material to fill in areas of your teeth and correct chipping and shape problems. Both are color-matched to the rest of your teeth.
Post-Operative Instructions

Aftercare to help you retain a healthy smile.

A blood clot must form to stop the bleeding and begin healing. Bite on a gauze pad for 30–45 minutes after the appointment; if bleeding or oozing persists, insert another pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes, repeating as needed.

Don’t disturb or dislodge the clot. Do not rinse vigorously, suck on straws, smoke, drink alcohol or brush teeth next to the extraction site for 72 hours. Limit vigorous exercise for 24 hours.

Some pain and swelling is normal. An ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas or corn will keep swelling to a minimum; it usually subsides after 48 hours. Take pain medication as directed, and finish any prescribed antibiotics. Drink lots of fluids and eat nutritious soft food on the day of the extraction.

Resume your normal dental routine after 24 hours, including brushing and flossing at least once a day. If you have heavy bleeding, severe pain, continued swelling for two to three days, or a reaction to the medication, call the office immediately.

  • Discomfort can vary after root planing, but tenderness is normal since treatment occurred in the deeper regions below the gum line.
  • Teeth can become a bit more sensitive to temperature, and bleeding might occur for a little while.
  • Ibuprofen can work very well — if needed take (2) 200 mg tablets every 4–6 hours until soreness subsides.
  • Brushing and flossing can be done, but be gentle around bruised or tender gum areas.
  • Your dentist or hygienist may recommend warm salt-water or Chlorhexidine rinses for the next couple days and up to 2 weeks.
